Simply Enjoyable
Bury the Hatchet
I have recommended Bury the Hatchet before, but it is such a fun place to go! Pick up a hatchet, throw it at the board and see if you can beat dad by being the first to get a bullseye! Bury the Hatchet is BYOB and BYOS (bring your own snacks!). Make sure you make a reservation in advance, and remember, parties of 9 or more will get a private bay, so invite the whole family to join in on the fun! Check out Groupon for up to 15 percent off!
Warwick Winery
For those of you who are close to the New York area, Warwick Winery is one of my favorite places to visit. It is a great place to spend the day with dad and the family, because there is something for everyone! From wine and cider tastings to a distillery tour and tasting, everyone will be able to enjoy their favorite beverages! Plus, there is outdoor seating, but you can bring a large blanket, some food or snacks (also available at the winery). buy a few bottles of the best things you tasted throughout the day and enjoy a picnic together. There is also live music from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. every weekend. What more could you ask for?!
Simply Sweet
This recipe is from Savory Magazine, and it is so worth sharing! It is a huge hit, especially if you are looking for a heartier breakfast with a sweet twist! Dad (and the rest of the family) will love it! Savory Magazine is available in Stop & Shop stores and online.
Baked Berry Banana Oatmeal Casserole
Ingredients
• 3 tbsp melted butter, divided
• 1 ½ cups low-fat milk (I use Unsweetened Vanilla Almond Milk)
• 1 large egg
• ¼ cup packed light brown sugar
• 1 tsp vanilla extract
• 1 tsp baking powder
• ½ tsp cinnamon
• 1/8 tsp salt
• 2 ripe bananas
• 1 ½ cups Rolled Oats (I use Trader Joe’s brand)
• 1 (10 oz) bag frozen Nature’s Promise Organic Berry Medley, thawed and patted dry (If you do not have a frozen medley, substitute with 10 oz of mixed frozen strawberries and blueberries).
Preheat the oven to 375° F. Grease a 9×13 pan (or 8×8 if you want a thicker oatmeal casserole) with 1 tbsp butter.
Whisk together the milk, egg and the remaining 2 tbsp of butter. Add in the brown sugar, vanilla, baking powder and cinnamon. Season with ⅛ tsp salt.
Chop the bananas and add to the bowl, along with oats. Stir to combine.
Split the berry mixture; arrange half of the mixture on the bottom of the pan. Add in the oatmeal mixture and spread it across the fruit in an even layer. Top with the remaining berries.
Bake for 20-25 minutes until set.* Serve warm.
*Whenever I make this recipe, I find that it needs 30-35 minutes until it fully sets. Start with 20 minutes, and add on time as needed depending on your oven!
